- THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS:TO PROMOTE HUMAN RIGHTS (AS SET OUT IN THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND SUBSEQUENT UNITED NATIONS CONVENTIONS AND DECLARATIONS) IN SOUTHEAST ASIA AND EAST ASIA. THIS WILL BE ACHIEVED THROUGH:- SUPPORTING HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS (HRDS) AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS (CSOS) THROUGH CAPACITY-BUILDING INITIATIVES, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND MENTORSHIP;- MONITORING AND DOCUMENTING HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES;- CONDUCTING RESEARCH INTO HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES;- ENGAGING IN INTERNATIONAL ADVOCACY IN RELATION TO HUMAN RIGHTS; AND- RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES.IN FURTHERANCE OF THAT OBJECT BUT NOT OTHERWISE, THE CHARITY TRUSTEES SHALL HAVE POWER: TO ENGAGE IN POLITICAL ACTIVITY PROVIDED THAT THE CHARITY TRUSTEES ARE SATISFIED THAT THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES WILL FURTHER THE PURPOSES OF THE CIO TO AN EXTENT JUSTIFIED BY THE RESOURCES COMMITTED AND THE ACTIVITY IS NOT THE DOMINANT MEANS BY WHICH THE CIO CARRIES OUT ITS OBJECTS.
