Purposes and classifications
Charitable purposes
3.1 The Club is established to relieve the elderly and aged, promote social inclusion and promote the benefit of men aged 60 years and over (hereinafter called “the beneficiaries”) resident in the Creggan and surrounding areas of Derry (hereinafter called “the area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, sexual orientation, disability/ability, race, ethnic origin, political, religious or other opinion by associating the statutory and local authorities, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to relieve the aged and promote social inclusion through various activities such as horticulture, darts, snooker, quiz nights, social evenings, day trips etc and in particular: (a) to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for educational and mental recreation in the interests of social welfare with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the said beneficiaries; (b) to relieve the aged and promote social inclusion for the public benefit among the beneficiaries through the provision or assistance in the provision of facilities and equipment for the coaching, playing and competition of snooker to relieve their needs and assist them to integrate into society; (c) to advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the Committee may from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of charity. For the purposes of this clause ‘socially excluded’ means people who are excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of the following factors: age or disability, unemployment; financial hardship or poor educational or skills attainment’.
