Purposes and classifications
Charitable purposes
The Charity’s objects (“Objects”) are to improve the quality of life of people with, or at risk, of depression and their carers (hereinafter called the “beneficiaries”) in Northern Ireland (hereinafter called the “area of benefit”) without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, disability/ability, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants and in particular: (a) To relieve conditions of depression, bipolar and other mood disorders by the provision of mutual support, fellowship and counselling for persons who are or who have been suffering from such illnesses and their relatives. (b) To educate the public regarding depressive illnesses by promoting and encouraging public awareness of such illnesses. (c) To promote research into the causes, treatment and prevention of depressive illnesses and the dissemination of the useful results of such research. (d) To act as a national organisation for all matters concerning the relief of sufferers of depression and manic depressive illnesses and their families.
