SHIP is established to collect, collate and record information to promote and organise historical and heritage projects for the benefit of the people of Belfast and its connected areas without distinction of sex, gender, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance educational, cultural and heritage projects for the said inhabitants.
