Purposes and classifications
Charitable purposes
The Association is established to advance education about Down's syndrome and its related conditions, to relieve sickness and to promote, to protect and preserve the health and wellbeing of people who have Down's syndrome and its related illnesses and conditions and their families and friends or carers (hereinafter called the 'beneficiaries') in the Omagh area and its environs in Co. Tyrone (hereinafter called the 'area of benefit') without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations in a common effort to advance education and relieve sickness with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said beneficiaries and in particular to: (a) foster an atmosphere of mutual support among the beneficiaries, their families and friends or carers in the area of benefit, and to encourage them to provide mutual support and encouragement to each other; (b) raise awareness for the benefit of the public in the area of benefit about the effects of Down’ syndrome and methods of management; (c) relieve the needs of the beneficiaries by the provision of or assistance in the provision of facilities, services and opportunities for treatment, recreation and education for the benefit of the beneficiaries which will maximise their participation in society within the area of benefit and enable them to obtain employment and lead an independent life; (d) provide funds, equipment and contributions in such manner as the Association thinks fit, in order to provide benefits to all people with Down’s syndrome and their families and carers; (e) to advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the Committee, may from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of charity.
