Charitable purposes

The Company’s objects are specifically restricted to the advancement of development education, the promotion of sustainable development, the prevention and relief of poverty, suffering and distress and the promotion of the benefit and wellbeing of people (hereinafter called the “beneficiaries”) in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and in the area of the Gaza Strip, Palestine and in any other part of the world as the Directors may think fit (“hereinafter called the “area of benefit”) by associating the statutory and local authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance development education, relieve poverty and improve the conditions of life for the said beneficiaries and in particular: (a) to relieve poverty, advance development education and promote sustainable development through international aid, poverty relief and tackling issues relating to socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America and Oceania by providing training, research, advice, policy input, consultancy, information, technical and practical assistance and research into development education for the benefit of the public in the area of benefit; (b) to advance education in the subject, theories and practices of development education among the general public, funders, researchers and local and statutory authorities, public bodies and statutory agencies who work in the area of international development by providing research and information in development education practices in order to assist in the promulgation of effective policies, initiatives and good practice in the area of benefit in an effort to optimize the performance of organisations that are dedicated to relief and development work and decisions relating to the relief of poverty; (c) to relieve poverty by developing the capacity and skills of socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America and Oceania in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs; (d) to promote and advance development education through charitable research and studies in the theories, methods and practice of development education in order to improve and expand the capacity for understanding and standards of development education and to disseminate the useful results of such research for the public benefit and in particular to persons or organisations engaged in international development in an effort to promote their efficiency and effectiveness;
