Purposes and classifications
Charitable purposes
The Charity’s objects (‘the Objects’) are to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the greater Derrygonnelly area and its environs (the “area of benefit”), without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, race, ethnicity or political, religious or other opinion, and in particular:- (1) To promote community development and citizenship by all or any of the following means: (i) provide facilities for and organise community and family events in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure-time occupations with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants; (ii) provide facilities, amenities and support to community and voluntary groups and organisations; (iii) advance active citizenship and volunteering in the community; (iv) foster a sense of community by encouraging and celebrating a sense of place, civic pride and an appreciation of all aspects of local heritage. (2) Relieve those in need by reason of youth, age or other disadvantage by making available facilities and resources that will enable those who lack access to services or experience social isolation to participate in recreational, social, cultural, educational and other types of activities and events. (3) The advancement of heritage, culture and the arts by: (i) preserving, restoring, maintaining and improving, for the public benefit, Derrygonnelly Orange Hall, a Grade B listed building of historical, cultural and architectural interest; (ii) acquiring, preserving, interpreting and displaying documents, books, photographs, maps, oral recordings, artefacts and other items relating to Derrygonnelly Orange Hall and the social and cultural history of the area of benefit, thereby promoting interest in the past, present and future of that community; (iii) carry out research into the social, cultural, religious, political and economic history of the area of benefit and disseminate the findings of such research; (iv) either alone or in association with other organisations or agencies, organise and present artistic activities and events, festivals and performances; (v) promote and enhance awareness and understanding, and encourage acceptance of, all indigenous customs, traditions, beliefs and artistic expression in the area of benefit, in particular those relating to the Ulster Scots culture which is strongly represented in the area of benefit.
