Purposes and classifications
Charitable purposes
The Trust is established to support by means of financial assistance and voluntary work the promotion of the Christian faith, the advancement of amateur sport and physical education, the prevention and relief of poverty and the promotion, preservation and protection of health and the promotion of the benefit of children and young people aged 13-18 in particular but not exclusively (hereinafter called the “beneficiaries”) attending Sports Academy George and its environs of George, Western Cape, South Africa, in particular but not exclusively (hereinafter referred to as the “area of benefit”) and to promote the benefit of those children who are in need of assistance as a result of their poverty or social and economic circumstances by associating with the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants of the area of benefit in a common effort to provide education and facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation to improve the conditions of life for the said children and in particular: To advance and promote the Christian faith for the benefit of children in the area of benefit through evangelism and the provision of biblically based teaching, discipleship training, meetings, bible studies, clubs, and social activities and in such ways as the Trustees may from time to time decide; To advance physical education, health and well- being and promote amateur sport through the provision of facilities and equipment, training, teaching, coaching, playing and competition of rugby, football, and netball so to develop their physical fitness, mental and emotional capacities that they grow to full maturity as individuals and citizens and their conditions of life may be improved and through such means as the Trustees may from time to time think fit in accordance with the law of charity; To relieve poverty and hunger in the area of benefit by any charitable means and particular through the provision of food, clothing and care and the provision or assistance in the provision of training in sustainable trades through teaching skills in agriculture, carpentry, tailoring and typing in preparation for entry to any occupation, trade or profession on leaving Sports Academy George; To promote or assist in promoting capacity building programmes and projects for the benefit of the inhabitants within the area of benefit who have need of such assistance as a result of their youth, gender, age, disability or infirmity or social and economic circumstances, in an effort to increase the abilities, skills, self-esteem and self-confidence of such inhabitants in the area of benefit; To recruit, select, and send out volunteers for both short and long term service within the area of benefit in partnership with local churches; To advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the Trustees, may from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of charity.
