Charitable purposes

The company’s objects (“Objects) are specifically restricted to the advancement of the education of local and international arts practitioners of all fields and at every stage of their artistic life through the promotion of a series of international artist residencies aimed at researching, production and exhibition of their work, thus giving them the opportunity to develop a sustainable international visual arts life within an international network of practitioners, having Derry as the nucleus for all activities and in particular: (a) build and develop a network of residency sites, initially in Italy and Donegal and at a later date in other local and international locations, with an aim to fostering an international community of artists and arts practitioners for the advancement of artistic and networking possibilities; (b) to arrange talks and provide workshops in conjunction with local and international institutes of higher education and arts organizations, which encourage the broad participation and opportunities in the visual arts for the public, including young people and disadvantaged groups; (c) to organize and promote public exhibitions of the work produced during the artist residencies, which encourage appreciation of the visual arts amongst the general public; (d) to advance the skills and personal development of artists through engaging with social enterprise as well as accessing public and private philanthropy, and building an international network of artists residences, this way encouraging, though talks, demonstrations and other means, the public’s appreciation of the visual arts and development of new techniques, methodologies and working practice amongst local artists; (e) to research the promotion of the development of social innovation and of new forms of engagement with public through visual arts projects; social innovation defined by The Young Foundation as ‘developing novel solutions to social problems that are more effective, efficient, sustainable or just than existing solutions and for which the value created accrues primarily to society as a whole rather than private individuals.’
