02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

NESMS was founded 50 years ago to provide tuition of excellence not available in the city or region at that time. Since then, much has changed with NESMS adapting and diversifying in response to different circumstances, while maintaining the original concept of excellence in tuition. One adaptation concerns tuition of adults in helping develop their full potential as performers and local music/ instrumental teachers. One fundamental element remains unchanged, and we still arrange for many of our tutors to travel from London, Manchester, Glasgow, and elsewhere to provide tuition to the many extraordinarily talented musicians in Aberdeen and the surrounds. The aim of the Charity is specifically: • To provide a centre where people can receive advanced or other musical tuition not otherwise available to them. • To provide all the appropriate facilities to the purposes of the School. • To receive as pupils those the Council of Management considers in proper need of the School
