02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Promotion of the Sikh religion, with regular classes within the Gurdwara, various school tours, chaplaincy services, Sikh funerals and weddings, hosting of events and celebrations involving significant Sikh calendar events through the year.

Constitutional objectives
2.1 Promotion of Sikh Religion, Sikh Culture and Sikh brotherhood. 2.2 To establish a centre for religious worship and education. Form Sub Committee for the advancement of Punjabi language, English language, culture, heritage and religion. 2.3 To establish a good library with up to date books on religion, education, social knowledge and artefacts, Kirtan audio disks, both in English and Punjabi. 2.4 The offer prizes / awards/scholarships and stipends to the outstanding students of Sikh religious studies and to outstanding Sikh students/scholars in other fields. 2.5 To arrange establishment of Sikh nursery and Sikh higher education institutions for the benefit of community. 2.6 To make every effort to provide free board and lodging at least for a week to persons coming from outside of Glasgow or abroad, who are in necessitous circumstances, provided they do not infringe the sanctity of the Sikh religious place. 2.7 To provide relief of poverty and sickness in India and other places in under developed countries of the world (herein after called “the area of benefit”) 2.8 To give aid anywhere in the area of benefit affected by drought, disease or other natural disasters. 2.9 To make grants to other charitable organisations or societies with similar objects, operating in the area of benefit. 2.10 To receive grants from other charitable organisations, Government and other organisations.
