02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Society was established in 1798 and by its rules gives grants or annuities to relieve financial hardship or other disadvantage, short term or long term, to those persons in need by reason of age, ill health, disability. Recipients of assistance in particular are resident in or connected with residents in the area of Inverclyde. The Society by its rules cannot give relief in any year greater than the Net Income of the Society for the current year together with any accumulated revenue brought forward from previous years. The Trustees always consider how to distribute as much income as is prudent each year. The amount of income available for distribution depends on the level of investment income generated plus any fundraising income generated from fundraising events.
