02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Dumfries and Galloway Health Board Endowment Fund was established to allow monetary donations to be received in support of the local Health Services. As an NHS charity we have hold the corporate Trustee model which means our Trustees also have responsibilities for managing the local Health Board. The charity was established to support local healthcare enhancements and improvements through providing funding for services within the local NHS and also local community. To meet our purpose (Advancement of Health) we undertake the provision of funding through grants and within our hospitals agreed expenditure processes. The main areas of support are: o Improvement in the physical and mental health local community. o The prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. o The provision of services and facilities in connection to the above. o Education and development in connection to the above. o Research into any matters relating to the causation, prevention, diagnosis or treatment

Constitutional objectives

The purposes of the charity are: The advancement of health, through: a) improvement in the physical and mental health of the Board’s population. b) the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. c) the provision of services and facilities in connection to the above. d) education and development in connection to the above e) research into any matters relating to the causation, prevention, diagnosis or treatment of illness, or into such other matters relating to the health service as the Trustees see fit. To observe any conditions attached to a donation or legacy prescribed by a donor to the charity, so far as is reasonably practicable, and consistent with the above purpose and the law.
