02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Dalkeith Miners' Charitable Society exists to provide facilities for recreational and other leisure activities that contribute to improving the quality of life for residents of Dalkeith and the surrounding community. During the year, the charity has continued to support a wide range of charitable and community groups by providing access to its facilities. These include organisations such as the Brownies, Dalkeith Festival, Midlothian Council, the NHS, ELCAP, local older persons’ groups and many others. The Trustees remain committed to supporting such groups by offering the use of the premises free of charge or at significantly reduced rates wherever possible. The Society continues to support local sport and community initiatives. Constitutional objectives
The objects of the Society are to provide facilities for such forms of recreation and other leisure-time occupation as are conducive to the improvement of the conditions of living of the inhabitants of Dalkeith and neighbourhood thereof within the Society's sphere of operations as defined from time to time and in particular but not exclusively) such of the inhabitants as are members of the Mining Community provided that nothing contained shall authorise the application of the Property to purposes which are not in law charitable. The Society shall not be identified with any party or sect.
