02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity was set up in 1962 to bring together people with an interest in supporting the work of Edinburgh University Library. People can join either as life members or as annual members. Two issues of a magazine are issued to members each year, a website is maintained and a number of talks, events, visits etc are arranged throughout the year. We make financial donations to the University to enable the purchase of items for the Library's heritage collections and for the establishment of internships.

Constitutional objectives
To bring together persons with an interest in the Library of the University of Edinburgh. to act as a channel for gifts to the Library. to receive subscriptions and gifts of money for the purchase of rare or valuable books, collections of papers, manuscripts, documents, photographs or other rare or valuable items for the Library. to enhance the resources and reputation of the Library. and to do all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the foregoing objects or any of them.
