Constitutional objectives
We hereby direct and appoint our said Trustees or their foresaid and particularly before conveyed to and in favour of the Lord –Lieutenant of the County of Dumfries, Kirk-Session of the Parish of Dumfries for the time being, and their successors in Office in Trust, for the purpose of Building and perpetually Endowing Alms Houses, to such extent as the Funds will admit, for the use and benefit of Widows, Daughters, and Sisters of Professional Men, Merchants, and Upper Class of Householders belonging to the said Burgh of Dumfries, or to the Village of Lockerbie, in the Parish of Dryfesdale, in Annandale, who are in reduced and have been formerly in more prosperous circumstances.
