02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity structure allows for applications to be considered on their merits at their Trustee meetings, where the Trustees undertake a review of the investment portfolio managed on the Trustees behalf with their advisors and consider what funds can be made available to support grants and campaigns. The Trustees focus their efforts toward Scottish and UK charities with a primary focus on Health, Research and Youth. All applications received are collated by the Trust's legal advisors and presented to the Trustees for consideration.

Constitutional objectives

The Trustees shall pay or apply the free annual income of the Fund or so much thereof as they in their sole and absolute discretion may decide, from time to time, (one) for the advancement of knowledge in medicine and surgery, and, in connection therewith, for the granting of bursaries, and scholarships, the creation and endowment of lectureships and University Charits, the carrying-out of research work in all its branches, in any part of the world, the purchase of all necessary equipment therefor and the publication in a manner, decided on as suitablel by the Trustees, so far as possible shall endeavour to makethe City of Edinburgh the chief centre of interest under this Trust purpose:
