02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Objects are met through delivery of residential experiences and by offering outdoor learning programmes for young people. We integrate the residential experience with outdoor learning - a powerful pedagogy delivering simultaneously multiple outcomes sought in Government health and well-being and youth policy areas as well as education, particularly relating to the delivery of Curriculum for Excellence outcomes. Our Centres provide a safe and nurturing, away from home environment. Programmes are designed to develop qualities, skills, knowledge and experiences such as confidence, resilience, teamwork and communication, creativity, problem solving, risk awareness, determination and adaptability, and ‘can do’ growth mind set. SOEC advocates partnership working and supports and collaborate with teachers, youth group leaders and groups for disadvantaged and disabled young people to deliver benefits and outcomes they seek.

Constitutional objectives
The Association’s objects are to promote the social, physical and intellectual advancement of the community at large and of young persons and children in particular. to construct, own, operate, manage, administer and provide, in Scotland, residential centres and facilities. and generally, to promote education and outdoor sporting, leisure and recreational activities and the creative arts.
