02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Our core business and specialism relate specifically to domestic abuse. We exist solely to support women, children, and young people who endure the trauma of domestic abuse. Our principal aim is to provide an environment where they can regain their power, increase their safeguards, and improve their well-being. We are a specialist women-only service and use an intersectional gendered analysis that is grounded in anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice. We operate a Human Rights and Children's Rights approach to service delivery, and our outcomes are consistent with those of Equally Safe in terms of national outcomes. The service is underpinned by a trauma-responsive approach. We work with those we serve in partnership. By working together, our aim is to reduce the risk of harm and danger posed to them and increase the positives in their lives.
