Constitutional objectives

The Object of the Society is to advance the education of the public in regard to all matters French and Scottish including the diffusion of knowledge and information relative thereto, and as ancillary to that object: i) To increase and disseminate in Scotland knowledge of France and the French way of life, with particular reference to its economic, social, political, historical and cultural institutions and developments and to afford opportunities for the study of all aspects of French life and thought. ii) To provide lectures, films or presentations on French economic, social, political, historical, scientific, commercial and cultura1 subjects in schools, societies and educational and other types of organisation. iii) To promote and facilitate the study of the French language in Scotland. iv) To promote the study of economic, social, political, industrial and commercial issues arising between the United Kingdom and France by lectures, discussions, visits, conferences and other suitable means, including bringing French men and women to the United Kingdom and sending British men and women to France, to assist in this work. v) To encourage education by offering and presenting prizes and by endowing scholarships in any educational institution. vi) To foster interest in the shared cultural heritage of the French and the Scots. vii) To facilitate and encourage Franco-Scottish research projects especially in conjunction with Franco-Scottish Societies in France and Canada. viii) To co-operate with other bodies on issues or initiatives which will further the object of the Society. ix) To do all other things as are incidental to or conducive to the attainment of the foregoing object.
