02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Charity has investments that are used to fund grants to the Diocese of Edinburgh and its mother church, St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral. It also holds the office of Usher of the White Rod, in which capacity the trust will occasionally be represented at national ceremonial events, such as the recent coronation, and may arrange for its regalia to be exhibited.

Constitutional objectives
4.1 to retain the same and pay therefrom all costs, charges and expenses properly incurred by the Trustees in or about the administration of the Trust, and all taxes and duties of every kind which may be chargeable at any time against or in respect of the capital or income of the Trust Fund or any part thereof, and for which the Trustees may be or may become liable (and so that such costs, charges, expenses, taxes and duties may, at the discretion of the Trustees, be paid from time to time wholly out of capital or wholly out of income or partly out of capital and partly out of income) and, subject as aforesaid, the Trustees shall apply the Trust Fund and the income thereof in furtherance of the objects set out hereto in such manner as the Trustees shall, in their absolute discretion, from time to time think fit. 4.2 for the advancement of the Scottish Episcopal Church, with the Scottish Episcopal Church for the Diocese of Edinburgh being considered as having a prior claim. 4.3 for the further advancement of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh. 4.4 for any other charitable purpose or purposes which appear to the Trustees, in their absolute discretion, directed to the improvement, efficiency, or benefit of the Trust.
