02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Dove centre is a social day centre in Wester Hailes which provides day services to people aged 50+ in the West of Edinburgh area. We provide fully accessible door to door transport for all service users. We provide freshly made three course lunches on the premises which support healthy heating and also meals to take home to ensure nutritional support is continues in the home for those unable to prepare meals themselves. We have a weekly programme of activities designed to enable people to experience better mental and physical health and to help older people remain as independent as they can be and to reduce the need for statutory services intervention. We additionally provide hot meals to another day centre who do not have the facility to cook meals themselves on site. We also operate Dove Transport which was set up in 2003 as part of a community transport initiative in Edinburgh. We supply fully accessible transport to many different organisations.

Constitutional objectives
4 The organisation's purposes are for the benefit of older and disabled people of west Edinburgh and environs covering the Pentland and South West Neighbourhood Partnership areas by: 4.1 The provision of care and recreational facilities and activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended 4.2 To advancement of community development and citizenship of older and disabled people. and 4.3 The promotion of the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantages. The provision of fully accessible transport to all older and disabled people to allow them access to care services.
