What the charity exists to do
Support former employees & their families, encourage education and apprenticeships, offering scholarships, donating to local sporting activities and training, mostly in Unst, Shetland

Constitutional objectives
(One) for payment out of the Trust Fund, as the Trustees in their sole discretion shall think proper, of the expenses of setting up the Trust hereby created. (Two) for payment out of the Trust Fund of expenses of every kind, that may be incurred by the Trustees during that year, as the Trustees in their sole discretion shall think proper, (Three) if and when the Trustees see fit, they shall be entitled, and they are hereby authorised, to set apart, and pay, make over, apply or accumulate the Trust Fund, in such proportions thereof as the Trustees in their sole discretion shall think proper, for such purposes within the Shetland Islands as charitable purposes within the meaning of section 7(2) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and as such Trustees shall from time to time select. including, but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing (First) the relief of poverty amongst past and present employees of Alexander Sandison and Sons Limited, Thulecraft Limited, Sandisons (Unst) Limited their successors and their subsidiary companies, their spouses and issue and (Second) the giving of grants, loans and donations to, and the purchase of capital or other equipment for, organisations in said Islands including sports or athletic clubs or other similar organisations and (Third) the provision of grants, loans or donations to persons engaged in the pursuit of education or vocational course or qualifications of whatever nature provided those persons have a substantial connection to the said Islands. under declaration that it is our express wish and desire that the Trustees making the said disbursements shall give preference to charitable purposes or persons with a substantial connection to on the Island of Unst.
