What the charity exists to do

The object of the trust is the preservation and protection of wild bird life in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Particular emphasis is placed on creating, or assisting in creating, maintaining bird sanctuaries and reserves and the promotion of interest in preservation and protection of wild bird life and promoting the knowledge and research of bird life. The income that is generated by the investment portfolio is used to pay out grants to other charities that help to meet these goals.
