02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The purpose is to maintain the locomotive, which was built at St Rollox Works, Springburn, Glasgow in 1899 in working order. The locomotive is in working order and traditional skills are passed on to younger people during maintenance. Given the costs of maintaining the locomotive (annual inspection and a major overhaul every 10 years), the Trust requires to raise considerable sums of money.
