02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The objectives of the Society are: to pay grants to pensioners on the Society's roll, giving assistance to individual residents in Edinburgh, furthering such charitable purposes in or connected with the City of Edinburgh as shall seem deserving of financial assistance. Grants are paid on a monthly basis, to those in need by reason of age and financial hardship in addition to providing social companionship. Applications for assistance are reviewed by the co-ordinator and recommendations made to the Secretary & Treasurer for their approval. The Secretary & Treasurer attends one gathering per month where the grant payments are made.

Constitutional objectives
The Society's objects shall be (1) the relief of poverty and (2) the relief of those in need by reason of age and financial hardship by providing financial assistance and social companionship to men for whom old age has created a natural and special need for regular social companionship with other of their own age, and for whom indigence may, other than through the Society, prevent the reasonable satisfaction of that need.
