02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
To raise awareness and interest in local and Scottish history, the flora and fauna of the area, the natural and built environment, Scottish literature and pertinent local issues by holding fortnightly meetings between October and March every year. These meetings are advertised locally both in local publications and poster displays.

Constitutional objectives
The objects of the society shall be to arouse interest in local history, archaeology, and literature, to support the literary institute Museum and Library and to arrange a series of lectures during the winter months on general subjects excluding politics and religion.
