02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Charles William Fox Fund was established following a bequest from Charles Fox to the elderly people of the Isle of Whithorn, to be managed for their benefit. Monies were invested, and the income from the investments has been used to purchase land, the site of the MacWilliams store, now demolished, where Charles Fox used to sit and chat with friends who made him feel so welcome in the Isle. This land is to be adapted to form a small boat park and a garden, for every generation, but particularly the older and more infirm folk of the village so that they can enjoy the view and gather and chat, as Charles did.
