02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Wigtownshire Women's Aid is a registered charity whose mission is to support women, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse living in Wigtownshire, whilst working towards a society free from domestic abuse and gender inequality. Our vision is to rid Wigtownshire of domestic abuse and wee women, children and young people enjoy all of their human rights where everyone has equal opportunity to be safe and live their life to the full. We work alongside women from a time of crisis and walk each step of the way with them until they feel strong enough to live independently of us. We provide temporary refuge accommodation in Stranraer and Newton Stewart. Our outreach service provides practical and emotional support to women living in in the community. Our children and young people's service provides support for children. Our prevention and awareness service provides training and education on domestic abuse and healthy relationships.
