02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
We provide free, independent, impartial and confidential advice and information to ensure that people understand their rights and responsibilities and can express their needs effectively. We campaign and influence to tackle the root cause of the problems people face and work to strengthen their rights. We believe that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity and that no client, job applicant, worker or volunteer should receive less favourable treatment than another on grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion and belief, or sexual orientation. We promote human rights and social justice and will not tolerate or practice unfair discrimination of any kind. We are committed to our obligations under the Equality Act 2010, and we extend these obligations to other aspects of equality such as socio-economic status, education, personality, social exclusion and communication style. We value diversity and promote dignity and inclusion to strengthen our network.

Constitutional objectives
The organisation has been formed to benefit principally the area of North Aberdeenshire (the “Area of Benefit”) with the following purposes:1 4.1 the advancement of education. 4.2 the prevention or relief of poverty. 4.3 the relief of those in need. 4.4 the advancement of health. 4.5 the advancement of citizenship or community development. 4.6 the promotion of equality and diversity. and 4.7 the advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation, particularly through (but not limited to) the following activities: 4.8 the provision of advice and assistance to individuals with a view to improve their understanding of their legal rights and responsibilities, facilitate access and use of the benefit system, and alleviate stress and other anxiety caused by unresolved issues. and 4.9 recruiting, training and developing local citizens who are engaged as volunteers in and for the Bureau, who in turn assist members of the public within the Area of Benefit, and in doing so contribute to the development of the Area of Benefit.
