02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Cheviot Sheep Society looks after the interests of its members to ensure that the purposes of the charity are carried out by the following:- 1 - Providing secretarial services for the running of the Society. 2 - Recording financial transactions culminating in providing annual accounts. 3 - Promoting the Society by advertising and attending events. 4 - Organising events to assist members. 5 - Endeavouring to increase the popularity of the breed, at the same time increase the membership. 6 - Publishing the Flock Book annually which is a record of registered sires to be used within the breed. (First published in 1893)

Constitutional objectives
(a) The encouragement of the breeding of Cheviot Sheep, and the maintenance of their purity. (b) The establishment of a Flock Book of pure bred Flocks for Sires, and the annual registration of such Sires as are proved to the satisfaction of the Council to be eligible for entry. (c) The investigation of doubtful or suspected pedigrees. (d) Any other business which in the opinion of the Council will be conducive to the interests of the breed.
