02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Edinburgh Old Town Association has objectives of promoting and encouraging public interest in the beauty, history and character of the Old Town of Edinburgh. To that end, the Association participates in consultations on issues affecting the amenity of the Old Town, comments on planning applications and proposals for development, publishes a regular newsletter and organises informative and educational visits and lectures. When funds allow, the Association also gives small donations in support of its objectives.

Constitutional objectives

Object. The object of the Association shall be to promote and encourage by charitable and educational means and not otherwise the growth of public interest in and care of the beauty, history and character of the Old Town and its surroundings, and with that end in view to: a To encourage the prevention, development and improvement of features of historic interest, local community associations, which are of themselves charitable, and general public amenity. b To stimulate public interest in, and care for, the history and character of the area. c To encourage high standards of architecture and planning in the Old Town. d To hold and promote informative and educational meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, conferences, publicity and schemes of a charitable nature.
