02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Scottish Dairy Cattle Association (SDCA) promotes and supports the Scottish dairy sector, with particular focus on animal health, welfare, genetics, good husbandry and sustainable herd management. The Association encourages dairy farmers to milk record and use herd data to improve animal health, welfare, fertility, longevity, productivity and farm management. SDCA promotes disease prevention, testing, and awareness of bovine disease threats and relevant legislation. It contributes to Scottish Government health and welfare stakeholder groups and represents the interests of Scottish dairy farmers. The Association arranges farm visits, meetings, training and knowledge-sharing events, and participates in industry events to promote best practice. SDCA supports responsible breeding and genetic improvement and encourages collaboration with veterinary, research, education, government and industry organisations. SDCA may provide donations to individuals or organisations
