To hold and administer The Fund for the purposes of The Foundation, namely the encouragement of education and research primarily in oriental languages and culture and the award of scholarships, grants and bursaries at universities, colleges or other educational institutions in the United Kingdom primarily for these subjects.

Constitutional objectives

I DIRECT the Trustees to hold the Fund for the following purposes: ... (Two) To hold and administer The Fund for the purposes of The Foundation namely the encouragement of education and research primarily in oriental languages and culture and the award of scholarships grants and bursaries at universities colleges or other educational institutions in the United Kingdom primarily for these subjects DECLARING that so far as possible the Trustees shall give effect to my wishes that the subjects principally to be encouraged shall be oriental and that the university shall be the University of St. Andrews all without prejudice to their absolute discretion to choose the scholars research students or bursars and the subjects and the universities or colleges or other educational institutions.
