02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Headquartered in Aberdeen and with additional Resource Centres in Elgin and Dundee, North East Sensory Services (NESS) supports over 6,250 people of all ages living with serious sight and/or hearing loss across North East Scotland. NESS provides joint sensory services including information and training, practical and emotional support, and clubs and groups. Our Mission is “ Achieving Independence for Blind and Deaf People”, while our Vision is of “ A Scotland aware of the needs of people with sensory impairment, that includes them as equal participants in community life and offers them the opportunities available to all”. We have statutory contracts with four local health and social care partnerships to provide specialist social work and rehabilitation support. In addition NESS delivers a wide range of Added Value projects funded by charitable income, designed to meet those service gaps identifie through our knowledge and understanding of the complex needs of the people we support

Constitutional objectives
1 To work in partnership with people affected by sensory loss (and with the carers of such people) in the North-east of Scotland, Shetland and/or in such other areas as the Company may resolve to include within the geographical area of its operations in order that such people may achieve independent and fulfilling lives as equal members of society, and to similarly work with people (and the carers of such people) with other disabilities, where such work may, with mutual benefit. Be undertaken in conjunction with the Company's work with persons affected by sensory loss and their carers
