02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

To utilise as a Memorial to the memory of Dr James Pirie's daughter, Muriel, the net revenue in each year in providing:-(1) Two prizes, each to the value of £50.00 (or such larger sum as the Trustees may from time to time agree) to be called 'The Muriel Pirie Sports Prize', one prize for the female pupil and one prize for the male pupil of Elgin Academy, judged by the Trustees in consultation with the Rector of Elgin Academy as the best all round female and male athletes. and(2) A bursary or bursaries to be called 'The Muriel Pirie Scholarship' to Scholars of Elgin Academy who are desirous of pursuing study at Aberdeen University leading to a First Degree in any discipline. declaring that the Trustees shall have full powers and discretion to make the choice and to decide as to whether in any particular year the scholarship should be divided and more than one beneficiary supported.
