02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The principal objectives of the charity are the conservation of Hopetoun House, ensuring public access to it, and promoting education through the House and the activities which take place there. Being open as a visitor attraction and running a programme of public events are key to the work of the charity. Hopetoun is normally open to the public on a seasonal basis from Good Friday to the final weekend of September. There are partnerships in place for regular tours, and there is activity out of season including wreath-making workshops, bespoke tours and school workshops. A Ranger Service delivers a wide range of conservation, education and public engagement activities, including Green Volunteers, youth volunteering and work-experience, biological surveys and grounds work, Junior Rangers and education workshops and evening sessions for Beavers and Guides. The grounds were open for other outdoor engagement including hosting athletics competitions, orienteering events and races.

Constitutional objectives
The general object of the Trust is the advancement of historic and aesthetic education, and for the purpose of carrying out that general object the primary objects of the Trust are in particular:- (A) To preserve as national monuments, buildings of national historic and architectural or artistic interest and importance including in particular the said Hopetown House and grounds and to protect and improve the amenities of such buildings and their surroundings. (B) To preserve for the benefit of the nation and in association with any such buildings as aforesaid furniture, pictures, manuscripts and other articles of national historic or artistic interest. (C) To facilitate and encourage the access to and the study and appreciation of such buildings, furniture, pictures, manuscripts and articles as aforesaid by the general public.
