02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Maxwell Memorial Hal was built in 1906 to promote active citizenship within the parish of Terregles and surrounding areas and to provide safe and secure facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreational, leisure, social and educational activities, and such other activities that may be deemed acceptable to the committee.

Constitutional objectives
For the payment of the expense of obtaining a site for the hall and grounds after mentioned on the Estate of Terregles and of erecting thereon and suitably furnishing a hall of a size and description suitable for the needs of the inhabitants of the Parish of Terregles for use as a hall for the holding of public meeting and entertainments, the housing if the Parish Library, and generally for the purpose of recreation, instruction and improvement. Should the said Trustees deem it expedient and practicable, having regard to the amount of funds available, to lay out the grounds attached to the hall as a bowling green, or in such other way as the Trustees shall think fit. To invest the sum remaining over after payment of the foregoing purposes, and to hold the same as a permanent endowment for meeting the annual upkeep and maintenance of the said Hall and furnishing and grounds, including the reasonable remuneration of a suitable caretaker, for assisting in the maintenance and improvement of the Parish Library.
