02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The purpose of the British Association for Lung Research is to promote research and the dissemination of research findings relating to human respiratory disease. The society achieves it aims by organising an annual summer meeting at which respiratory scientists and clinicians have an opportunity to present details of their research. In addition to its role organising meetings the Association also nurtures young scientists in the field of respiratory research through the award of a variety of studentships, travel awards and research prizes.

Constitutional objectives

The aims of the Association shall be as follows: (i) To promote interest and encourage studies in the field of experimental research, related to the elucidation of mechanisms of lung disease. (ii) To promote an interchange of ideas between workers' in this field, including the organisation of regular scientific meetings. (iii) To encourage the exchange of materials and techniques between laboratories, for their mutual assistance and as a means of standardisation in appropriate areas of research.
