02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Alleviate poverty and hardship among individuals in need of psychiatric and other related services, and to promote education, welfare and treatment. We undertake to provide community based services that are designed to promote inclusion, create opportunities and enhance mental health and general welfare. Explore new ways of developing health and support for people with mental health problems. Make continued efforts to spread information, knowledge and understanding about mental health. Encourage and assist statutory bodies responsible for mental health services to meet the needs of the community. Main activity is direct service provision. Also significant is the involvement of service users and volunteers in the promotion of mental health in the community.

Constitutional objectives

The Association is established for charitable objects and purposes only and in particular for the following purposes:- (1) To alleviate poverty and hardship amongst consumers of psychiatric and other related services and to promote their education, welfare and treatment and in particular but without prejudice to the foregoing generality, to promote throughout Lanarkshire and such other areas as the directors may determine from time to time ('the Operating Area') community based services for consumers of psychiatric and other related services and public awareness and understanding of mental health. All through the means of:- (i) providing that continued efforts are made by statutory and voluntary groups to spread information, knowledge and understanding about mental health. (ii) exploration of new ways of providing maximum help and support within the community for those in need of such services. (iii) encouraging and assisting the statutory bodies responsible for providing services in this field of mental health to meet the needs of the community.
