02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Together with Bishop Dougan, the clergy of the diocese animate and lead pastoral initiatives in the different parishes seeking to fulfil the aims and objectives which are integral to the diocese: namely, the promotion of the advancement of the Catholic religion. the relief of poverty and the support for the most vulnerable. the advancement of education. and the care of the sick. A wide variety of initiatives involve many individuals and groups in looking at the issues which each specific area raises. The Diocese serves the needs of the Catholic Community, as well as the needs of those of other Christian denominations, of other faiths, and of those who have no faith experience of faith profession at all.

That the general funds of the Diocese have arisen from various sources, including donations, bequest and collections, some expressed to be for such charitable and religious objects in connection with the Diocese as the Bishop might think proper and others merely expressed as for the benefit or purposes of the Diocese: but that all have been and are held for charitable, religious or educational purposes within the Diocese.
