02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Trust hereby created shall be held by us in trust for the ends, uses and purposes following: The Trust shall be known as 'The Langholm Library Trust'. The Trust estate shall be held in name of the Trustees and shall be applied for the following charitable purposes: Preservation and conservation of books received by Langholm Town Council from the former Langholm Library Committee and now to be passed over to the Trust. Making all the books held by the Trustees available as a reference Library for the public in an apartment(s) in the Langholm Library Building to be provided by the Local Authority. Replacement as required and for the enlargement of the stock of books held by the Trustees with other volumes suitable for reference purposes. Encouraging the use of the library apartment by the townsfolk of Langholm as a cultural, study and information centre. Receipt of gifts, including donations, legacies and bequests and the administration of these funds for the foregoing purposes.

(Second) That the Trust estate shall be held in name of the Trustees and shall be applied for the following charitable purposes and no others, namely:- (one) for the preservation and conservation of the books received by Langholm Town Council from the former Langholm Library Committee and now to be passed over to the Trust. (two) for making all the books held by the Trustees available as a reference Library for the public in an apartment or apartments in the Langholm Library Building to be provided by the Local Authority. (three) for the replacement as required and for the enlargement of the stock of books held by the Trustees with other volumes suitable for reference purposes. (four) for encouraging the use of the library apartment by the townsfolk of Langholm as a cultural, study and information centre. (five) for the receipt of gifts of all kinds, including donations, legacies and bequests and for the administration of these funds for the foregoing purposes. and (six) for the carrying out of all actions or operations which are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the foregoing objects.
