02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is located within Bellahouston Park in the southern suburbs of Glasgow. The principal activity of the Hospice is the care of patients with life limiting progressive disease and support for their families. The Hospice offers four distinct areas of care to patients – Inpatient, Day Services, Clinical Nurse Specialist Community team and input to Acute Hospital teams. Patients may access any or all of them, according to individual needs. From a community health perspective, the Hospice covers two Community Health Care & Social Care Partnerships with responsibility for a population of approximately 300,000 people, and receives referrals from around 60 local GP practices, as well as from the Acute Hospitals servicing particularly the South Glasgow area.

Constitutional objectives
The objects for which the Company is established are:- 5.1 To promote the relief of suffering (so far as such purpose is charitable) in such ways as the Company shall from time to time think fit, and in particular (but without prejudice to the generality of such objects):- 5.1.1 by establishing maintaining and conducting residential nursing homes and Hospices (here and referred to as a Hospice the singular being understood to include the plural) in Scotland through the provision of care to individuals of all genders, without discrimination based on race, religion, belief, or any other protected characteristic who are 16 years or above and suffering from any life limiting illness and by providing medical or other treatment and attention for any such persons in their own homes. 5.1.2 by conducting or promoting or encouraging research into the care and treatment of persons suffering from any such illness, disability or infirmity and particularly into the care and treatment of persons suffering from cancer or life limiting or terminal illnesses. 5.1.3 by promoting or encouraging or assisting in the teaching or training of any person engaged in any medical or paramedical field and particularly in the training of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and other persons engaged in any branch of medicine, surgery, nursing or allied services, and in the teaching or training of students and any branch of medicine, surgery, nursing or allied services. 5.1.4 by assisting or encouraging the provision of spiritual help and guidance in accordance with the expressed wishes of any persons resident (either as patients or otherwise) or working in the Hospice. and 5.2 by providing a counselling service and practical care and support for the relatives and friends of patients in or connected with the Hospice.
