02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society is an independent, non-profit making charity, established in 1973 to promote and encourage awareness of the Scottish architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. • To support the conservation, preservation, maintenance and restoration of buildings and artefacts designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries. • To safeguard and further the legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries by being an authority on his work. • To care for, maintain and develop Queen's Cross Church, the only built Mackintosh Church, and the Society's headquarters since 1976. • To advance public education in, and engagement with, the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries through wide-ranging quality events, publications, talks and other initiatives with a particular focus on students and new talents • To represent and develop the membership of the Society, locally, nationally and internationally.
