02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The purpose of the Fund as set out in the Deed of Mortification 1715 is to make provision for the widows and dependents of Church of Scotland ministers with the Presbytery of Hamilton who had subscribed their required quota of entry money to increase the capital of the Fund. purposes. In accordance with the provisions of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Reorganisation (Scotland) Regulations 2007 the purposes were modified effective from 09 December, 2024.

Constitutional objectives

2 The Trustees will use the funds available, both capital and revenue, to make grants directly to or assist any of the following category of beneficiary who resides within the Presbytery of Forth Valley and Clydesdale geographical area and is in need assist those involved in the Ministry of the Church of Scotland and their families in the following ways: a. any retired person who has been ordained or commissioned for the Ministry of the Church of Scotland. b. any widow, widower and/or orphan of a person who has been ordained or commissioned for the Ministry of the Church of Scotland. c. any spouse or former spouse and/or child (natural or otherwise) of a person who has been ordained or commissioned for the Ministry of the Church of Scotland. and d. anyone involved in active Ministry within the Church of Scotland who is in need. support any family member of a Minister, including a retired Minister, who at the time of the Minister1s death was acting as a Housekeeper to the Minister and is in needy circumstances.
