02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
To fund research into mediaeval history or archaeology in Scotland. Applicants come from academic institutions and elsewhere. We advertise in the magazine History Scotland once a year, and run a small website through which applications are submitted. Proposals are submitted by 15th January annually by way of an application form and likewise report on their work

Constitutional objectives
To promote the study of and research into mediaeval history in or relating to Scotland and in particular but without prejudice to the foregoing generality the promotion of advanced archaeological study and research into that period commencing with the end of the Roman occupation and extending to the end of the Fourteenth Century with also, as may be appropriate, associated lines of study and research in allied documentary or other fields and to make available to the public the outcome of such study and research either by publication or by ensuring that the same be held available to the public in the records of some institution or otherwise.
