02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The established tradition has been for Sunday services to alternate between St. Ernan’s, Creich and Bunessan churches with worship following a fairly traditional format. In addition there are service on Iona when the Minister is Available. During the year Sunday services were held twice a month, rather than weekly, with levels of attendance fluctuating but generally low. However special services held during the year were well attended including the Easter Sunday service on Fionnphort beach, the Harvest festival service in October, the Remembrance Day service at St. Ernan’s Church and short service at the War Memorial, and the Christmas Eve Nightwatch and Christmas Day services. Social Events and Community Activities: The weekly coffee mornings in Bunessan Church have for many years been an important source of regular income and interaction with the wider community. These were started up again in June but from November were replaced by a lunch time ‘soup and sandwiches’
