02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The advancement of Christian religion within the Christian ethos of the YMCA, welcoming persons of other religious faiths and those of none. the advancement of education, citizenship, community development, health, public participation in sport. relief of those in need and prevention or relief of poverty. This is done by the delivery of: • high quality children's clubs for primary aged children daily. • innovative holiday club programmes for children and young people during school holiday periods. • innovative youth work programmes to mentor young people. • innovative detached street sport programmes for children and young people. • a high quality hillwalking and outdoor education programme for people of all ages. • Building the YMCA brand and investing in youth leadership by empowering young people. • Training and supporting our volunteers, employees and trustees. • Developing an internationally recognised international youth exchange programme.

The Association's purposes, in empowering young people and in keeping with the 'Aims and Purposes' adopted by the British YMCA conference in 1971 as set out in Appendix A hereto are: 2.1. The advancement of Christian Religion within the Christian ethos of the YMCA, welcoming persons of other religious faiths and those of none. 2.2. The advancement of education. 2.3. The advancement of citizenship or community development. 2.4. The advancement of health. 2.5. The advancement of public participation in sport. 2.6. The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 2.7. The prevention of Relief of Poverty.
