02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

To maintain unimpaired the purity of teh Highland Pony Breed and to promote the breeding of Highland Ponies for riding, driving, showing and other purposes including sporting, forestry and farmwork. To encourage the use of good sound stallions and superior broodmares. The promote the general interests of the breeders and owners of registered Highland Ponies. To encourage the registration of pure bred stallions, mares and geldings in the Highland Pony Society's stud book. The Society is governed by the Council comprising of a President, Vice President and Immediate Past President who serve two years and are appointed by the directors, and fifteen directors who are appointed by the members of the Society and service for three years. Six council meetingsa are held each year to develop future policies and support the management of existing policies and Society events. A stud book is produced annually. The Secretary carries out the day to day running of the Society.
