02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Cameron House Community Centre was established in 1931 by Edinburgh University Settlement. The Management Committee aims and objectives are to promote and deliver educational, recreational and social opportunities that will enable the local community, to be stronger, more resilient, supportive, influential, and inclusive. The centre provides an extensive programme of classes and activities for adults, children and young people to improve life chances through learning, personal development and active citizenship. For example, Adult Education classes, cross generational projects, youth clubs, multicultural groups and sports, drama, health and fitness sessions.

Constitutional objectives

3.1 to advance education among the residents of the Area of Benefit (the 'beneficiaries') through the development and implementation of programmes of community education for the said beneficiaries. and 3.2 to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for ,recreation or other leisure time occupation, for the benefit of the said benefiqiaries where such provision is i) in the benefit of social welfare ii) made with the objects of improving the conditions of life of people in the Area of Benefit and/or 3.3 to advance citizenship and promote volunteering among the beneficiaries through the provision of opportunities for them to take an active part in the Civic life of their communities.
